Kobudo (Ancient Weapons)
Yamaneryu Bojutsu: The art of the long Staff

Yamaneryu bojutsu (art of the long staff) is a powerful yet graceful method
of kobudo that is consistent with the classical Chinese-based traditions
practiced in the old Ryukyu Kingdom. Yamaneryu, the term which describes the locale within the village from where the tradition
came, can trace its roots back through Okinawa history to Chinen Pechin (c.
1846-1928).
Whereas most styles of bojutsu have been affected by modern
influences, the tiny village-style of the Chinen clan has remained virtually
unknown in the karate word and has remained untouched by modern phenomenon.
Yamaneryu bojustu employs swift but powerful circular motion, a distinct pattern of twisting thrusts, vibrant body dynamics and pliable footwork.
These signature characteristics not only uniquely identify this unique clan-style,
but define it as one of the most impressive forms of self-defence ever devised.
Shindo: Shintani's Way
Shindo
(Shintani's way) is the modern art of the short (three foot) staff
developed by Sensei Masaru Shintani, 9th Dan. Sensei Shintani developed Shindo from the hanbojutsu techniques of
his samurai ancestors - the Matsumoto clan. This modern martial art is now practiced around the world and is
even used by law enforcement agencies for defensive tactics and riot
control. Shindo's quick accurate blows, deflection of incoming strikes and
sidestepping of aggressive attackers, make it a practical and effective method
of modern weapons self-defence.
